PE and Sport Provision 2013-14
Provision for PE and Sport at Stonehill is aimed at giving children the chance to actively take part in a range of Physical activities both within and beyond the school day, developing their skills and confidence and encouraging them to lead active, healthy lives.
Children will take part in Games, Dance, Gymnastics, Athletics, Outdoor/Adventurous activities and Swimming in relation to their year group’s long term plan. This will include the opportunity to experience sport and activities delivered by specialist coaches:
· Football coaching and other activities run by Stevenage FC in Years 1 – 6. This includes lessons based on leadership, with Year 5 given the opportunity to complete their Young Sports Leaders Award (nationally recognised).
· Taekwon-do for children in Key Stage 2.
· Tennis and Cricket coaching in the Summer Term.
· Swimming in Years 3, 4 and 5. These lessons will take place at Hitchin Swimming pool.
Beyond the school day, there are a variety of clubs that take place throughout the school year. These include:
· Boys’ Football Club
· Girls’ Football Club
· Netball Club
· Cricket Club
· Rounders Club
Other clubs will take place as the year progresses, with the school listening to children’s ideas when selecting these.
The school regularly takes part in sports fixtures against other schools. These include football and netball matches, as well as other tournaments and events throughout the year. We are members of the North Herts School Sports Partnership, which allows us access to a variety of competitions.
The school’s annual Sports Morning will take place in the Summer Term.
Stonehill looks to inspire through sport. Activities this year include a visit to the school by a professional gymnast and motivational visits by players from Stevenage Football Club. Children will also have the opportunity to win tickets to Stevenage Football Club home matches throughout the year as part of our partnership with our closest professional team.
