Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

My name is Mrs Beales and  I teach Year 1 with the assistance of Miss Sawyer and Mrs Read. If you have any questions then please call school or email me on heatherbeales@stonehill.herts.sch.uk .  I will try to answer them as soon as I can.

 

PE days for Year 1 are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so please send your child into school  dressed in their PE kit and  trainers.  Don't forget a coat.

Throughout June join in with the Wildlife Trust and do something wild every day.  Get yourself outdoors and into nature.  Look for the animals and their habitats, see the summer flowers and insects, enjoy nature in all of it's glory!

              Reading.

I am going to add some tips  and links for those on the  Accelerated reading scheme.  Also, all of Year 1 will need to continue practising their  letter sounds.

Monday 13th July

This week's English tasks are all about writing Fiction.  To listen to a story.  The story today is The very Noisy Night.

This term we are going to focus on consolidating your child's knowledge of all the sounds together.

Phonics.  Write down all the sounds you can remember and then check with the sound chart from your pack.  Revise all set 2 which are: ay, ee, igh, ow, oo as in book,, oo as in poo, ar, or, air, ir, ou, oy.

Topic activities for this week are focused on learning about  scientific experiments and predicting what we think will happen compared to what actual does happen.

We tried the volvano experiment (that you can see  higher up thepage) shown by Davide.  You need vinegar and baking powder. Ask before you try it.  You may need some adult supervision.  We had some very unexpected results.

Use any material you have available to make a Terracotta soldier.  Use recyled boxes or toilet tubes make excellent body shapes.  Or see whhat you can find out about  The Willow Pattern Plate.  Using blue crayon, pencil crayon or  felt tip pens to create your own Willow Pattern story on apiece of paper.

Different ways we have been moving.

30 Minute Movement Challenge

 Everyone at Stonehill will be joining in!  Each day spend 30 minutes being active.  This could be walking, running, dancing, baking, gardening, hula hooping.... anything that gets you active.  And we want you to share what you are up to.  Email in a photo or video of your activity and we can share them on our class page (with your permission of course!).

Joe Wicks is still here!

Joe Wicks will be streaming a live 30 minute PE session, suitable for KS1 upwards, every weekday morning at 9am.  The first session is on Monday 23rd March.  Minimal equipment and space is needed.  This is a great way to keep your children active at a time when it may be difficult to do so.  It looks like fun too!
