30 Minute Movement Challenge

Take Action, Get Active

We are encouraging Stonehill to get active this month!  Please follow this link https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/events/take-action-get-active-2020 for more information.  Can you complete the 30 minute movement challenge?

Mental health is very important and being physically active can really help with this.  The aim is for 30 minutes of movement each day and we would love to see how you have been doing this! Email Miss Webster a photo of you doing this, to put on our page!

30 Minute Challenge

Home Learning

We will continue to update parents/carers as often as we can through marvellous me, and notify of any learning tasks we set for the children whilst they are at home. The children will be able to complete online tasks, through either the links below, or from 'marvellous me'.

If you have any queries about the home learning or need some advice, feel free to email either of us:

laurawebster@stonehill.herts.sch.uk

lorrainejenkinson@stonehill.herts.sch.uk

The children are more than welcome to email me telling me about their week, to ask about their home learning, or to show me examples of their amazing work! I will reply to the same email address as quickly as I can!  I look forward to hearing from you 4JW

Miss Webster.

4JW's fantastic home learning!

Something to keep you occupied:

Maths

Go to https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/ and select Summer Term Week 7. This should bring you to:

Lesson 1 - Tenths as Decimals

It might be helpful to draw out a place value grid like we have done in class! Draw all columns including the decimal point, and it will make this week's tasks easier.

Watch the video and then find the link above this table which will take you to the activity sheet. You can answer these in your green exercise book.

Extra challenge: have a go at some of the mastery questions in the link above!

(If you find this maths activity too challenging, then complete an activity in the Collins New Primary Maths Book that is in your home learning pack!)
Purple Mash - 'Bond Bubbles' game.
English

This week, your English tasks are all...Harry Potter based! (Sorry I couldn't resist).

(If you would rather not watch the short video clips with this week's English, I have included pictures for inspiration, or you could do your own research).

Magical Invention

Harry Potter's best friend Ron Weasley lives at The Burrow with his family.

Watch the short clip below to see what it is like, it is full of inventions!

https://youtu.be/k_XkWjs4SKo

Now, create your own magical invention...

Ron already has a flying car, and a family clock to tell them where everyone is. See if you can come up with your own idea!

It is up to you to decide how to present this, but there must be a picture, labels and a description of how this invention works. (You could do a power point presentation, create a poster or a leaflet).

I cannot wait to see the finished inventions!

Accelerated Reading (including a quiz if ready to do so)  30 minutes

Part 2

Use the powerpoint above to find out all about Roman gods.

Then, in your green book, interview a Roman god!  Think about what questions you could ask them and write down what they said.  You could even get someone at home to ask you the questions and you could pretend to be the god!  Questions could include...

What are your powers?

Do you use your powers for good?

What would the world be like without you?

Do you get on with the other gods?

If you were a happy meal toy, would you collect yourself?

Finally, use the god trump resources above to create your own god trumps.  If you can't print the templates, you can draw them out yourself.

Complete the 2do task on Purple Mash; 'Roman Soldier Quiz.'

How much do you know about a Roman soldier's uniform and equipment?

Tuesday 9th June

  Activity If you finish...
Maths

Go to https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/ and select Summer Term Week 7. This should bring you to:

Lesson 2 - Divide 2 digits by 10

It might be helpful to draw out a place value grid like we have done in class! Draw all columns including the decimal point, and it will make this week's tasks easier.

Remember - when we covered this in class, we used a place value grid to help us, if we divide - the number gets smaller, so you move each digit to the right!

Challenge a friend or adult to a battle on Times table rockstars.
English

Using your magical invention that you created yesterday, today you are going to create a persuasive poster in order to encourage wizards to buy it!

Think about persuasive techniques we covered in class - catchy slogans, bold writing, offers and pictures. Include all details about your invention - what makes it stand out? Why should people buy it?

Make it as persuasive and as creative as you can!

Purple Mash - 'Sequence Snake'
English

Can you imagine visiting a place like Diagon Alley? (This is where Harry goes to buy all of his school things, ready for when he goes to Hogwarts!)

If you are not sure what it is like, watch the clip below.

https://youtu.be/z-WEzhyc3DY

Write a descriptive paragraph, all about the first visit to Diagon Alley, as though you are Harry Potter. Try to write in the first person, describing your surroundings. Try also to include fronted adverbials, e.g  Suddenly, I was surrounded by crowds of people. Nervously, I followed Hagrid along the winding streets.

Imagine seeing lots of different shops selling magical things, other wizards and witches, and creatures. What can you see around you? How would you describe it? Think of lots of interesting vocabulary!

Magical Creatures

Harry Potter's wizarding world is FULL of magical creatures! Elves, goblins and dragons to name a few.

Create your own magical creature, as though it is part of Harry Potter.

Here are some key things to think about:

What type of creature is it?

What can it do and how does it move?

What does it look like?

What does it like to eat?

Draw an image of your magical creature, and then write about it in the form of a report. Use subheadings and paragraphs to organise your writing, and include as much information as you can. You can do this on purple mash or on paper. Here are some of the magical creatures below to inspire you!

Back to where it all began...

How would you feel if you found out you were a wizard?

Today, you are going to write about the day you found out you had magical powers! How did you find out? Did you accidentally cast a spell? Perhaps you accidentally made something strange happen?

Make it as creative as you like.

I would love to hear some of your ideas!
