Year 4 2020 2021

PE will be on Monday and Wednesday and children can come to school in their kit (hair tied back and no earrings please).

Google Classroom is up and running and homework will be set weekly.  Please also continue to use TTRS and Spelling Shed and record any reading that the children are doing at home in their planners.  If you would like to send a photo of planners showing their reading then please upload it via Google Classroom or email me (kateshort@stonehill.herts.sch.uk).  I will respond to any emails as soon as possible after lesson time.

Year 4P v Year 6

Final score: Year 4P (less than Year 6) v (more than 4P) Year 6

Well done Year 6!  An excellent victory.  Good luck at your new schools.

A good effort 4P.  We will let Year 6 have this one!

Sports Day... at home!

It's usually around this time of year that we have our sports day - a whole morning of exciting physical activities that ends with the new house champions proudly holding up the house trophy.

Unfortunately, we can't have a sports day this year, but... we can have lots of little sports days in your homes!

Below is a pack that gives you lots of ideas to have a sports day in your home.  So, from next week (22nd June) onwards, we are encouraging everyone to have a sports day at home if they can.  Please email me pictures if you want to and I can put them on our class page.  There is also a national competition that you can enter to win a hamper of sports goodies.  The pack even has little medals that can be cut out and awarded (how exciting!).

I look forward to seeing pictures of your sports days.  Lots of Pokemon are up for grabs, including a mythical Pokemon for the best home sports day.  Have fun!

Covid 19 Time Capsule Workbook

In your spare time, you may want to print this off and fill it in for your future self to look at.  This is a really interesting way to reflect on what is happening at the moment.

A special video has been posted on the Stonehill facebook page from the staff (link above).  We hope you like it.

Home Learning

We will continue to update parents/carers as often as we can through marvellous me, and notify of any learning tasks we set for the children whilst they are at home. The children will be able to complete online tasks, through either the links below, or marvellous me.

The children will also be given learning packs to bring home, if possible.

Every day is email Mr Phillips day!

Children can email Mr Phillips, under parent supervision, if they want to talk about their week. Of course, they are welcome to talk about Pokemon too (fingers crossed!)! I will get back to your child as soon as I can by replying to the same email address.  I'm looking forward to hearing from you 4P!

Below are the activities set for each day for the final week of the year.  English is from bitesize, Topic is a transition activity and Maths includes one final escape room on Monday from  galaxy far, far away...

To Year 4P - You have been absolutely brilliant this year (and when you were 3P too!).  Thank you for all the home learning you have completed and have a brilliant summer!

To parents and carers - Thank you for all of your support over the lockdown period and over the last two years in general.  I have had so much fun teaching your child's class and seeing how proud they are of how far they have come.  Have a fantastic summer!

Previous weeks are archived below, just in case anyone needs them! If parents/carers have any questions, please email me at nickphillips@stonehill.herts.sch.uk and I will get back to you as soon as I can.  Don't forget to get some physical activity in there too and to send me any Sports Day pictures you may have.

Roman army top trumps of Mr Phillips and Mr Brewer. Very accurate pictures too!

Live fieldwork lesson on Thursday (optional):  Habitat Exploration

On Thursday at 10:30am, follow this link https://encounteredu.com/live-lessons/fsc-fieldworklive-2020 for a live lesson on habitat exploration (just click on the habitat exploration lesson).  There are resources too.  The lesson can also be watched at any point after this from the same link.  This links really well with our topic and should be really interesting.  There are resources you can print off or look at beforehand so it is worth having a look before the time it starts.  As it's all about bugs, I'll give a special shiny bug type to anyone who watches and can tell me what they most enjoyed about it.  Happy habitat exploring!

Tournament Result...

Year 3 16,787 v 25,847 Year 4P

It's all over and... we have won and we have won in style.  MEWTWO IS OURS!  Congratulations 4P!  I am so proud of you.  Tears have formed in my eyes and I am currently doing the tooth pick dance from the school disco (there's not even any music!)!

I will send Marvellous Me messages soon to tell you your individual Pokemon rewards if you took part.

Special mention must go to Kian though.  As Kian got the highest score in the WHOLE TOURNAMENT, I now have to support Arsenal for a week and prove it with photographic evidence (now you know why I am crying!).  Oh well, at least they are not playing at the moment!

Have a Poketastic half term everyone.  Missing you all!

Heatran is ours!

Final score: Yr 4P 27,430 v 26,767

VICTORY!  I've been celebrating all night with regular bowls of cereal!

Congratulations 4P!  It was a fantastic battle that went right to the wire, but we did it!  Well done also to Year 5.  It was so close and we couldn't have had a close battle without your excellent scores.  I'll send individual messages to those with high scores, but everyone that took part can certainly have a Pokemon!

Year 6 want to challenge us next week.  We will be ready I'm sure...

Kian, a deal is a deal. You topped the TTR leaderboard so... GO ARSENAL GO!

30 Minute Movement Challenge

Take Action, Get Active

We are encouraging Stonehill to get active this month!  Please follow this link https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/events/take-action-get-active-2020 for more information.  Can you complete the 30 minute movement challenge?

Mental health is very important and being physically active can really help with this.  The aim is for 30 minutes of movement each day and we would love to see how you have been doing this.  Please email pictures or short videos to me and, with permission, these can be put on the class page for all to see.

Two 4P members have caught Victini!

Thank you to everyone who sent me their VE Day learning.  I have decided to give 2 Victinis out and they go to...

Niall

and

Alethea

Congratulations to both of our winners.  Victini is yours when we return to school.  He will be 10 rated and already have the ability Victory Star...

Victory Star

Before each turn, roll the dice 5 times.  For every even number you roll, add 1 to Victini's battle rating for that turn.

This means Victini could have a battle rating as high as 15 each turn!

Well done Niall and Alethea.  I hope you have fun with your Victinis!

Pokemon News

Pokemon can't be stopped!  Check here each week for Pokemon news, including new abilities that are being introduced!

DAY ONE UPDATE:  Gengar is still being naughty!  He keeps hiding things in the classroom.  I can't even find Sid at the moment!  I'll keep you updated as I go looking for him...

DAY TWO UPDATE:  Still looking for Sid.  Gengar said he will only tell me where he is if I beat him in a battle with just a Magikarp!  Poor Sid!  I'll let you know how I get on!

DAY THREE UPDATE:  My battle with Gengar is planned for tomorrow.  I've been training my Magikarp as well as I can, but because he is so useless (don't tell him I said that!), he can't score more that 0.  Even if I roll a 6 on the dice, 0 x 6 is still 0.  I will of course try my best to win (somehow!) and rescue Sid the skeleton.  Then again, if you think about it, there's actually noBODY to rescue!  Ha!  Get it?

Wish me luck for tomorrow 4P... I'll need it!

DAY FOUR UPDATE:  The battle has ended 4P and.... I won!  I took some photos to prove it.  It was incredible!  Magikarp was about to roll and lose when suddenly he evolved right in front of me!  Gyarados defeated Gengar and Sid is safely back in his cupboard.  He says Hi!  Thanks for all your support 4P.  I couldn't have done it without you.  Sid is going to celebrate by having a disco all on his own in the cupboard now because he has noBODY to go with! laugh HA!  Sorry, my jokes aren't getting any better...

DAY FIVE UPDATE:  Sid is still safe!  There will be a new ability released here early next week.  Come back next week and check it out!  Have a great weekend 4P!

NEW ABILITY ALERT!

Disguise

If this Pokemon loses, you may restart the turn and both roll again.  You can only use this ability on the turn the Pokemon is brought forward from the bench.

This is Mimikyu's token ability, but other ghosts can learn it too.  It basically give you a chance to lose and not faint, which is very helpful!  You can also use it again if you end up switching your Pokemon back to the bench and then forward again.

Nap Nap Spell

You don't have to use this ability.  At the start of the turn, choose one of your opponent's Pokémon.  That Pokémon is now asleep and can't be put in the active position until all other Pokémon on your opponent's team have been knocked out.  If that Pokémon is already in the active position, your opponent must switch it with another Pokémon of their choice.   You can't use this ability if one of your opponent's Pokémon is already affected by it.

This ability can be really annoying!  You can stop an opponent using their favourite Pokémon until the end of a battle, or just keep switching them around!  This can really ruin your opponent's strategy.  Pokémon that can learn this ability include Hypno, Butterfree and many other Pokémon that can send Pokémon to sleep.  Would you like this ability on one of your Pokémon?

Sychronising Shockwave

If your opponent rolls the same number as you for any of their dice rolls this turn (including any rolls used for abilities), their Pokemon faints.  This does not affect ground types.

This ability can be learned by electric type Pokemon.  It isn't guaranteed to work, but will give you a chance to defeat an opponent much stronger than you.  It's also great to use against certain abilities.  Imagine your opponent panicking every time they roll the dice for hydro barrage!  Would you like to put this ability on one of your electric Pokemon?

Jealous Rage

If your opponent has used an ability to raise their Pokemon's battle rating, dice roll or attack score, double your own Pokemon's attack score.

This ability can be learned by lots of Pokemon, and is a great way to counter lots of popular abilities like hydro barrage, charge of the doomed, nightmare strike, revengeful rampage and many more.  What do you think of this new ability?  Would you like to give it to one of your Pokemon?

You have all had a marvellous me message inviting you to this epic tournament.  Log on and help your classmates to defeat me (but please be nice about it!).  Good luck!

UPDATE 26/3: Wow!  I'm losing by a lot! crying  Well done 4P!  It seems 1 v  (up to) 25 isn't fair!  I've asked for help from my friends so hopefully we will catch up!  Keep adding to your score 4P or we will catch you... We are teachers after all! wink  Remember, everyone who takes part is guaranteed a Pokemon when we return to school.  There will also be bonus Pokemon prizes for the highest scores.  Keep on rocking!

UPDATE 27/3:  Congratulations Year 4P.  You have been victorious against Mr Phillips and friends!  Everyone that took part has earned a Pokemon.  High scorers will be sent a marvellous me seperately stating your extra rewards.  There will be another exciting Battle of the Bands next week.  You will be told about this with a marvellous me message and also on here.  Congratulations again 4P.  I was secretly cheering for you anyway!

Tournament Result:

Year 3   31,455  v  31,129 Year 4P

Congratulations to Year 3 for winning the Ho-Oh tournament.  Very well deserved after an extremely close and high-scoring tournament.  Your Ho-Oh will be waiting for you when we go back to school.

Thank you to everyone in 4P who took part and gave it their all.  We will battle Year 3 again one day for another amazing reward and we will come back stronger.  Right, I'm going to go and have a  quick cry!

What about PE?

Never fear, Joe Wicks is here!

Joe Wicks will be streaming a live 30 minute PE session, suitable for KS1 upwards, every weekday morning at 9am.  The first session is on Monday 23rd March.  Minimal equipment and space is needed.  This is a great way to keep your children active at a time when it may be difficult to do so.  It looks like fun too! Here is the link to his Youtube channel:

Premier Sports Stay Active

This link will allow you to sign in to the Premier Sports Stay Active site.  This has been set up for parents and has lots of resources that you can use with your children to promote physical activity, health and wellbeing and lifeskills.  Well worth a look!

HAPPY SUMMER TERM PPPP (that's 4P!)

I hope you had a fantastic Easter.  If anyone has a habitat from their Easter project they would like to show me, please email a photo to me.  I look forward to seeing them and rewarding you greatly!

New learning is ready for you below.  The Pokémon news and TTR sections will be updated throughout the week, including another new Pokémon ability and a TTR challenge for you to take part in.  Right, I'm going back to my bath to hold my special sign up.  I've been holding it for over a week now and my arms are sore, but it's such an important message!

Easter Project

Design a Pokemon Habitat

There is no learning set over Easter.  Have a well earned break 4P and thank you for all of your home learning over the last 2 weeks.

This is an optional project you could do over the Easter holidays (the next two weeks).  You don't have to do it!  If you do though, I will reward you in the usual Pokemon way (and the rewards are very, very, very good!).

Design a Habitat (a home) for a Pokemon of your choice to live in (if you don't want to link this to Pokemon, it could be an animal of your choice instead.  Think about what sort of Pokemon/animal you have chosen and what it will need to survive in your habitat.  Will it need a water source (absolutely!)?  What will it eat?  Does it have shelter? Do others live with it?

You can design the habitat in your green book or in other ways.  You could create it online (Purple Mash has some great ways of doing this) or create a powerpoint about it.  You many want to build it too if you have the right things at home already (an empty shoebox is great for this).  Please don't ask adults to get you things outside of your home as it is hard to do this at the moment.

You are welcome to send an email attachment of your habitat to me (this could be a photo), or you can wait to show it to me when we return to school.

I look forward to seeing what wonderful little worlds you create!  Have a fantastic Easter 4P!

Welcome to Year 4P's class page

Spring is here!  There's lots to look forward to, including our class assembly on Thursday 23rd January.  We can't wait to show you what we have been learning!

Websites

Your child has access to 3 fantastic sites that they can log on to at home.  These can be accessed form the links below.  Purple Mash is the latest site that we have subscribed to and is fantastic for learning across the curriculum.  This includes times tables, which is an important aspect of learning in Year 4.  Times tables can also be practised on Times Table Rockstars, which is a brilliant site that children across the school are really enjoying.  Spelling Shed is an excellent way to learn and consolidate spelling through games and activities.
